Nine killed on Nebraska roads in January

Nine people were killed in crashes on Nebraska roadways last month, according to data released Tuesday by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
NDOT said the nine fatalities came from the same number of crashes, with five people killed who were not wearing seatbelts.
Seven of the deaths were reported on highways, two on local roads, and none on the interstate.
Seven of the nine deaths came from crashes in rural locations, according to the data.
One of the fatalities was a pedestrian.
The number is half the average from 2015-18, according to NDOT, and the lowest for January in the last five years.
