No. 18 Husker softball stays hot, trounce New Mexico State in Troy Cox Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The No. 18-ranked Nebraska softball team stayed hot in its second game of the day on Friday, taking down New Mexico State 10-0 in the Troy Cox Classic.

The Huskers jumped out to an early lead, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning and 3 more in the second to grab their second run-rule victory of the day.

As a team, the Huskers totaled 10 hits and two errors, while the Aggies produced two hits and no errors.

In the bottom of the second inning, Nebraska got home runs from Abbie Squier, Ava Kuszak and Jordyn Bahl in three straight plate appearances.

This is the first time Nebraska has accomplished that feat since a 14-4 win over New Mexico State in 2022.

Bahl led the Huskers from the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs, all career highs.

Olivia DiNardo and Kacie Hoffman each had two hits, while Lauren Camenzind tallied two RBIs.

Bahl also paced Nebraska in the circle, pitching five innings while only allowing two hits and fanning eight.

In its two games Friday, NU outscored its opponents 30-1, while the offense produced 23 hits, 10 home runs and 15 extra-base hits.

Nebraska will look to continue its run in the Troy Cox Classic on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Montana.
