No. 18 Nebraska softball run-rules its way through Troy Cox Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The No. 18-ranked Nebraska softball team boasted another dominating victory Sunday, taking down Montana 16-3 in its final game of the Troy Cox Classic.

The Grizzlies took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning, but a 9-run outburst from the Huskers in the bottom of the third inning helped regain the lead and close out the victory.

As a team, the Huskers tallied 14 hits and committed zero errors. The Grizzlies only had five hits a racked up four errors.

Ava Kuszak had a career day, going 4-for-4 from the plate with 4 runs, six RBIs and three home runs.

That marks Kuszak’s career high for RBIs, hits and home runs in a game. It also ties a school record for most home runs in a game.

The most recent Husker to hit three home runs in a game was Kaylan Jablonski in 2018.

Jordyn Bahl also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, hitting two doubles, a triple and scoring three runs.

Emmerson Cope (3-0) earned the win for the Huskers, closing out the final two innings of the game allowing two hits, no runs and striking out two.

On the weekend, Nebraska outscored its five opponents 69-9, run-ruling every team they faced.

Nebraska will head to Cathedral City, Calif., to take on Baylor in its first game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
