No. 20 Nebraska softball takes down Maryland in front of record crowd

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The No. 20-ranked Nebraska softball team took care of business Saturday, beating Maryland 9-2 in game two of its regular-season series finale at Bowlin Stadium.

This was the first sellout in Bowlin Stadium history, as 3,021 Husker fans packed into the venue.

Maryland started the game hot, taking a 2-1 lead over the Huskers by the end of the first inning.

But that’s all the Terrapins would get, as the Huskers scored 8 runs in the final three innings to take their sixth-straight Big Ten series.

The Huskers moved to 37-12 overall and 16-5 in the Big Ten, while the Terrapins fell to 18-30 overall and 3-18 in the Big Ten.

As a team, Nebraska tallied 11 hits and only committed one error, while Maryland racked up seven hits and committed three errors.

Samantha Bland, Olivia DiNardo and Abbie Squier each had two hits for the Huskers, while Ava Kuszak led the Big Red with two RBIs.

Hannah Camenzind got the start for NU, pitching three innings and allowing 2 runs on five hits. None of those runs were earned.

Kylee Magee (7-4) got the win for the Huskers, pitching four scoreless innings while only allowing two hits and fanning three.

Mazie MacFarlane and Julia Shearer led the Terps from the plate, each going 2-for-3. Matti Benson knocked in Maryland’s two runs.

Keira Bucher (2-7) took the loss for Maryland, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up six hits and 5 runs (1 earned).

The Huskers will take on Maryland in their final regular season game of the year on Sunday.

First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
