No. 20 Purdue too much for Huskers on the road

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska men’s basketball team dropped its second straight road game on Sunday, getting trounced by No. 20 Purdue 104-68 at Mackey Arena.

After the loss, Nebraska moved to 12-4 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten.

The Boilermakers jumped on the Huskers from the tip, getting out to a 45-28 lead to end the first half.

Only two Huskers finished the game in double-digits. Connor Essegian led Nebraska with 17 points, followed by Juwan Gary with 10.

Brice Williams and Essegian paced the Huskers in rebounds with five, while Williams and Sam Hoiberg led the team in assists with four.

Nebraska shot 48.2% from the field compared to Purdue’s 63%. That marks only the second time in 33 games Nebraska saw an opponent shoot over 50%.

The Huskers were outrebounded for only the second time this season, as the Boilermakers had a 33 to 20 advantage on the glass.

The Boilermakers were led by C.J. Cox with 23 points, followed by Fletcher Loyer with 19 and Trey Kaufman-Renn with 15.

Nebraska will head back to Lincoln on Thursday to take on Rutgers at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
