No charges for Sarpy County deputies in deadly shooting last fall

LINCOLN Neb. (KLKN) – A grand jury has come to a conclusion on an officer-involved shooting in Sarpy County in October.
On Tuesday, the grand jury found no criminal conduct by deputies in its investigation of a shooting that left a man dead.
On Oct. 28, a 911 call was placed saying Rory Geiger shot and killed his wife, Rebecca Geiger, at their home near 144th Street and Giles Road.
When Sarpy County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, Geiger began shooting at them through the window.
One of the deputies then shot back, and Geiger died of his injuries.

By law, the deputies had to be investigated by a 16-person grand jury.
But the grand jury recommended no criminal charges for the deputies.
They used witness testimony, law enforcement narratives and body camera footage to come to their conclusion.
“We appreciate the magnitude of the evidence presented and the grand jury’s diligence in reviewing actions of law enforcement,” Chief Deputy County Attorney John Reisz said. “Our office is honored to support jurors during this important process and commends them for their public service.”
