Noise cannons and pyrotechnics will keep geese off grass at Fonner Park in Grand Island

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Fonner Park is cracking down on Canada geese.
Officials at the horse racetrack are trying to keep the geese off new grass, according to a press release from the City of Grand Island.
Starting Tuesday, the city said Fonner Park will implement a few “mitigation strategies” to address “ongoing issues” caused by the geese that live there.
Officials will put fencing around the pond area and use sound deterrents like noise cannons, pyrotechnics and “electronic harassment devices,” the city said.
Those measures were approved by the Grand Island Police Department.
Fonner Park will be allowed to carry out the deterrent activities every day between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. through Oct. 31.
GIPD could extend the agreement after that.
