Norfolk City Council approves $118 million budget
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Norfolk City Council unanimously voted to approve next year’s annual budget Monday night.
Council President Rob Merrill said the $118 million budget shows that the city is in one of its strongest financial positions in recent memory.
Mayor Josh Moenning said the budget supports growth in the community, infrastructure, public safety and quality of life in Norfolk, while maintaining low property taxes.
The property valuation of the city grew by over $238 million, or 14.86%, in just one year, increasing the valuation to nearly $2.2 billion, according to Randy Gates, Norfolk’s finance officer.
The budget is not finalized, as an 0.5% sales tax increase is on November’s ballot.
If the tax is passed, the budget will be amended.
