North Bend Central High School serves as the command center to help clean up after the flood

With the clean up of North Bend underway, the command center to organize all of the volunteers is out of North Bend Central High School.

With the command center being outside of the High School means that school for the students has been canceled indefinitely.

Inside the school, the classrooms are being fully utilized, like the art being converted into a package delivery center, and one of the high school gyms being used as a donation center.

“It’s very different to see like toilet paper here and bleach there and I just remember running up and down the court play basketball so it’s kind of weird to see all of that,” Abby Johnson 8th grader from North Bend said.

The reason why North Bend Central High School is the command center is that it is one of the few areas which was not affected in town.

The local fire station is under flood waters, so they had to be relocated to the other gym inside the high school.

“We’ve been running our truck out of here the guys have been sleeping here we’ve had other departments coming in and taking care of some of our rusty squad calls so it’s been kind of a very displaced ad very disorganized but we made it, as we called it organized chaos so it’s been working pretty well,” Bob Kavan a North Bend Firefighter and EMT said.

Even though class has been canceled most of the students at North Bend Central are not taking the day off, they are out in the town helping in any way they can.

“It makes me feel proud of myself and then proud of my community to see everybody stepping forward to work together,” Maci Norris a North Bend Freshman said.

With the whole town coming together a sense of pride is evident in the residents.

“It’s really nice we’re all kind of like a unit now, and it’s nice,” Colton Pruss a North Bend Freshman said.
