LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 80 outside of Gothenburg on Friday, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Troopers were called to a single-vehicle crash at roughly 5:45 p.m. to find a rolled Ford pickup.

The pickup had been traveling west when it lost control, according to the patrol.

The driver, 53-year-old Joseph Dodson of North Platte, was ejected from the vehicle.

Despite life-saving measures by the passenger and a trooper, he was later pronounced dead at Gothenburg Health Hospital.

The passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

The state patrol urges all drivers to reduce speeds in winter driving conditions. Check 511.Nebraska.gov for updated road conditions throughout the state.

Officials said the patrol responded to 14 crashes and performed 36 motorist assists on Friday into Saturday morning as a result of the storm.
