LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A sheriff’s office in northeast Nebraska has broken its record for the most citations and arrests in a year.

Sheriff Mike Unger said the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office topped 3,000 arrests and citations on Sunday night.

That broke last year’s record of 2,481.

“Earlier this year I told my deputies, I didn’t think we would ever top that number, especially being down one to two deputies throughout 2024,” Unger said in a press release. “However, they proved me wrong with their proactive work ethic that has made Stanton County a safer place.”

He said his office is “one of the most proactive” law enforcement agencies in Nebraska.

“I know that many will continue to complain about our pro-active approach, but yet those efforts have led to many criminals being taken off our streets,” Unger said in the release.
