‘Not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving’: Center for People has more than turkey and stuffing

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Center for People held its annual Fall Food Festival on Monday.

This year, the organization wanted to focus on providing a wide variety of food to provide more options for people.

Executive Director Macala Carter said the center does regular pulse checks with the community to better understand its needs.

“We took the cultural awareness component of the community that we serve and shifted our focus,” Carter said.

That means there is more than just your typical Thanksgiving dinner menu items.

“We recognized that not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving from that traditional American standpoint,” Carter said.

The Fall Food Festival runs through Wednesday.

Monday alone, the organization was able to feed 957 families.
