‘Not my typical Wednesday’: Man arrested following standoff in east Lincoln neighborhood
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — An east Lincoln neighborhood is breathing a sigh of relief Wednesday after a routine operation turned into a standoff.
“It’s been a pretty exciting day, it’s not my typical Wednesday at all,” said Lincolnite Lois Baldwin.
The Metro Area Fugitive Task Force and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office showed up to a home near 58th and A streets to serve two warrants for David Guerrero Jr.
According to the sheriff’s office, Guerrero was wanted for third-degree domestic assault and violating a protection order.
Guerrero refused to come out of the house, and authorities ended up using a Taser on him, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said he was taken to and treated at a local hospital before being lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on both warrants.
Baldwin said the home has been empty after the homeowner passed away months ago.
“I was puzzled,” Baldwin said. “I was surprised when I found out it was in that house, I was just surprised. I would’ve guessed it was something to do with the school or something.”
Baldwin has been living in the area for 26 years and said she’s never seen anything like it.
“I heard there was a team involved and it was concerning,” she said. “It’s a very quiet safe neighborhood to me so that’s not the usual run of the mill event.”
Lincoln Pius X High School was placed on “secure” for a short period of time due to the standoff.
