NSP: Man arrested for ramming cruiser while trooper was inside

Authorities arrested a Scottsbluff man after he reportedly rammed a Nebraska State Patrol cruiser Thursday evening.

A trooper in Scottsbluff attempted a traffic stop on the suspect, who exited his pickup and refused to obey commands before getting back inside and attempting to flee, the patrol said.

The patrol said the suspect, identified as 43-year-old John Nereson, came to a stop, put his truck into reverse and rammed the trooper’s patrol cruiser while the trooper was inside.

Ignoring repeated commands to stop, the Nereson continued backing into the vehicle, pushing it into a building before his truck became disabled, the patrol said.

Nereson exited the vehicle and the trooper used a Taser on him and arrested him for attempted assault on an officer using a motor vehicle, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, willful reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol (5th offense), driving under suspension, criminal mischief, and traffic violations.

The trooper was not injured in the incident. Nereson was transported to Regional West Medical Center for medical clearance and then lodged in Scotts Bluff County Jail.
