LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in western Nebraska.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning in Bayard, in Morrill County.

Officers with an intelligence and narcotics task force were serving a warrant along with Morrill County deputies at a home when the resident, identified as 58-year-old Larry Hunt, became combative, the patrol said.

At one point, two deputies “discharged a firearm,” and hit Hunt, the patrol said.

Authorities say Hunt was taken to a hospital in Scottsbluff where he later died.

One Morrill County deputy suffered minor injuries during the shooting.

State law requires a grand jury to convene for any in-custody death.
