NSP: Short standoff south of Minden turns fatal

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — One man fatally shot himself after a short standoff with deputies, says the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP).

The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1684 A Rd, south of Minden, on a report of an armed person, barricaded in a car outside a residence.

NSP and Minden Police were called to assist the situation. As these agencies arrived, a gunshot was heard from inside the vehicle.

The subject, identified as 51-year-old Scott Horine of Upland, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died a short time later.

NSP is investigating the incident.
