NU Board of Regents to consider selling alcohol at Husker volleyball, football games
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football and volleyball fans could have an ice-cold beer in their hands while cheering on the Huskers next season.
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents is considering allowing alcohol sales at all Husker athletic events, including football and volleyball, at its meeting on Oct. 4.
Alcohol sales are already permitted at Nebraska basketball, baseball and softball games. Nebraska is the only Big Ten school that doesn’t currently serve alcohol at football games.
If approved, Nebraska would start offering alcohol at Memorial Stadium and the Devaney Center during the 2025-26 season, officials said.
“The University of Nebraska has put a great deal of thought and care into how we approach alcohol at our athletic events. I’m very pleased that we have shown we can do this safely, responsibly and in a way that makes sense for our fans, our student-athletes and the institution as a whole,” NU President Jeffrey Gold said in a press release. “This is the next step as we consider how best to meet our fans’ expectations, carefully monitor safety and at the same time bring Nebraska in line with our peers in today’s changing college athletics landscape.”
Gold said a portion of the revenues from alcohol sales will go toward an investment in “alcohol safety programs.”
Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen said the university is “committed to providing a first-class game-day experience” at all of Nebraska’s athletic venues.
“Alcohol sales have been successfully and safely implemented at Pinnacle Bank Arena and Haymarket Park in recent years,” he said in the release. “Our success in those venues with alcohol sales, combined with our recent and planned infrastructure upgrades, has informed us we are prepared to provide the same opportunity at Memorial Stadium, the Bob Devaney Sports Center, and our other facilities, beginning with the 2025-26 athletic season.”
