NU regents approve new concessions provider at Nebraska sporting events

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted Friday to approve a new concessions provider for Husker sporting events.

Previously, the university handled the concessions at all sporting events.  But now, Aramark Sports and Entertainment will take charge of the concessions.

The contract includes a $10 million capital infusion, which will go toward modernizing Memorial Stadium’s concession stands, like installing coolers for alcohol.

Aramark is projected to bring in an annual commission of $5.8 million to UNL, according to the board’s agenda.

Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen said Aramark will also be crucial in helping the university create a plan for alcohol sales at Husker football games.

Aramark has been a part of transitions to alcohol sales at six other colleges, including Iowa, and Dannen said he believes in the provider’s “expertise.”

Contracts with vendors like Runza will move over to Aramark.  But since Valentino’s was in the last year of its contract with the university, the pizzeria would go through Aramark for a new agreement.
