NU touts study showing it has $6.4 billion economic impact on Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The University of Nebraska released a study Tuesday showing that the system has a $6.4 billion annual economic impact on the state.
The study, conducted by national consulting firm Tripp Umbach, found that NU supports 1 in 20 Nebraska jobs.
“From the jobs we create to the future workforce we educate to the research we produce, our university is helping move Nebraska forward in meaningful ways,” President Jeffrey Gold said in a press release. “For every $1 the state invests in the University of Nebraska, we generate $10 in economic activity — an extraordinary return on investment.”
The report says one in seven working-age Nebraskans have a degree from NU.
Of the system’s campuses, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has the largest economic impact, at $3.1 billion a year.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center adds $1.6 billion, the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s impact is $1 billion, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney contributes $446.5 million.
