Broken Bow man arrested after officer-involved shooting north of Grand Island

A suspect is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in rural Howard County late Tuesday night.
The Nebraska State Patrol arrested 30-year-old Luke Lefever, of Broken Bow, after they said he fired shots at officers following an attempted traffic stop.
It happened near Dannevirke Rod and Page Road, north of Elba.
The patrol said after a deputy pulled Lefever over, he fired a handgun, then got inside a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and drove away. There was a shotgun in the cruiser and Lefever and deputies both fired weapons.
Lefever then ran away. Officers from multiple agencies, including the Nebraska State Patrol’s helicopter started searching for Lefever.
He was eventually found by a creek bed with a gunshot wound to the forearm. He showed signs of hypothermia and was taken to the hospital by helicopter.
No officers were injured.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office requested the public stay inside their homes and lock their doors during the investigation. There is no longer a threat to those in the area.
Lefever’s charges haven’t been decided yet.
