Officer receives award after saving suicidal woman from Omaha lake

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — An officer who saved a woman who was trying to kill herself was awarded by the Omaha Police Department this week.

OPD said Officer Daniel Morales responded to a call about a vehicle in Zorinsky Lake over the summer.

Inside the partially submerged vehicle, he found a distraught woman who was making suicidal statements.

Morales said she tried to drive even farther into the lake when he approached.

The officer was eventually able to convince the woman to get out and helped her return to shore.

He then helped get her medical and mental health care at a hospital as well.
