UPDATE: Device found near Pound Middle School removed, situation defused

UPDATE: Officials have removed a suspicious device from a home near Pound Middle School. 

A robot was deployed to examine the device, which was deemed safe to remove from the scene, officials said. 

Officials said the device will be taken outside city limits to be disposed of. 

The area is back open and no injuries were reported.


Officials are investigating reports of an explosive device found at a home in south Lincoln. 

Crews were called to the home near 4610 Gertie Avenue, about a block away from Pound Middle School, just before 10:00 a.m. Friday. 

A pipe-like object with a fuse was reportedly found near the home, and officials on scene told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that a similar object had been found. 

A Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter on scene said people in the area have been told to stay inside their homes, and that the house where the device was reportedly found has been taped off. 

Our reporter also said a K9 unit had been deployed. 

Officials said the person who reported the device had found it near Pound Middle School and took it back to their house. 

Pound Middle School is not in session.
