Oklahoma man arrested in connection to stalking incident on UNL’s campus

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — An Oklahoma man was arrested Sunday after he was found stalking a student on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s campus.
Just before 3:15 a.m. on Oct. 1, a UNL community service officer found a suspicious male walking around a residence hall on campus.

The officer told police the man — later identified as 34-year-old Alexander Sanchez — was looking at doors inside the residence hall for one hour.
According to court documents, UNLPD responded to the residence hall after Sanchez made comments about finding his girlfriend.
Police met Sanchez in the lobby of the residence hall. According to an affidavit, Sanchez initially refused to identify himself, insisted on leaving and was confrontational with officers.
This led officers to temporarily detain Sanchez in handcuffs until he complied.
According to court documents, Sanchez made several statements stating he was looking for his girlfriend, who he said personally invited him to the university.
Sanchez told officers he was invited by the victim through Snapchat and TikTok Live. He also said he had traveled by bus from Oklahoma on Sept. 3 to find the victim.
Officers looked through the messages from Snapchat that only appeared as responses to the victim’s Snapchat stories.
The messages appeared to be Sanchez attempting to converse with the victim and making flirtatious comments towards the victim, but the victim never replied, court documents said.
Officers explained to Sanchez the messages he was referring to were stories to the followers of the victim and not personal Snapchat or TikTok messages to him.
Sanchez did not understand this and believed the victim was personally speaking to him, according to the affidavit.
Officers then made contact with the victim at her actual dorm and informed her of the situation.
According to the affidavit, the victim explained to officers she had a large social media presence on TikTok and Snapchat with many followers.
The victim confirmed she didn’t know Sanchez and was not in a relationship with him.
Due to Sanchez being considered non-affiliated with the university, he was verbally told by officers to leave and not return to any UNL residence halls, or he would be cited for trespassing.
On several other dates after officers’ initial contact with Sanchez, he made several social media accounts attempting to contact the victim through Snapchat and TikTok.
Around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, officers found Sanchez in the courtyard area of a residence hall on east campus.
Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of stalking and trespassing and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail.
His bond was set at 10% of $40,000, and he is due in court on Nov. 17.
