LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Omaha man was arrested Friday after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 80 in Douglas County, authorities say.

Around 1:40 a.m., a trooper tried to pull over a vehicle exceeding speeds of 100 mph near the L Street interchange.  The vehicle did not yield and fled from the trooper, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The driver, 26-year-old Nicholas Salcedo, continued heading east on I-80 until he exited into a residential area.  The trooper stopped the pursuit out of concern for public safety, NSP said.

The Omaha Police Department’s helicopter was eventually able to find the vehicle near 42nd and D Streets, and Salcedo was taken into custody.

NSP says Salcedo was arrested on suspicion of willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, driving under suspension, driving with a blood-alcohol content over 0.15%, and other traffic violations.
