Omaha man sentenced for having almost 700 files of child pornography

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Omaha man was sentenced Wednesday on a child pornography charge, acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr announced in a press release.
Donald R. Hamilton was sentenced in federal court to more than 11 years in prison for the receipt and distribution of child pornography.
He was arrested after a Nebraska State Patrol investigation involving an online file-sharing network.
On several dates between March and August of 2021, an investigator identified a link between a specific IP address and known images of child pornography.
The investigator was able to connect to the IP address to download the files, and further searching identified Hamilton as the suspect.
On Sept. 28, 2021, the patrol executed a search warrant on Hamilton’s residence, where they discovered the file-sharing software on Hamilton’s device.
The patrol confirmed that Hamilton downloaded 670 images and 25 videos between March 27 and Aug. 29.
The files included depictions of prepubescent children and adults having sex with children.
Hamilton was released before his trial, but he attended a birthday party where children were present and failed to report it, violating the terms of his release.
His pretrial release was revoked on Oct. 27.
There is no parole in the federal system. After his release from prison, Hamilton will begin a five-year term of supervised and will be required to register as a sex offender.
