Omaha Police Department investigating car theft, fatal crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Omaha Police Department on Monday is investigating a fatal crash involving a stolen car.
Officers responded just after 3 a.m. to the area of 37th and X streets and found a stolen Hyundai Sonata.
Investigators said the Sonata was driving south on 37th Street at a high speeds when it grazed a parked car, and then another parked car.
The crash caused the Sonata to roll onto its passenger side. The front seat passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was partially ejected, according to law enforcement.
Officials said he was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Five additional people between 13 and 20 years old were also taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment of various injuries, according to officials.
Law enforcement said lack of seatbelt use, speed and alcohol use are being investigated as contributing factors to the crash.
