Omaha sex offender found hiding in Stanton County home, authorities say

Myron Mesteth

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Omaha man was arrested Friday morning after being found hiding in a Stanton County home.

Just before 11 a.m., the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office found 53-year-old Myron Mesteth and took him into custody without incident.

Mesteth was wanted on a felony sex offender warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

In September 2003, Mesteth was convicted of two counts of attempted first-degree sexual assault and sexual assault of a child in Madison County, an affidavit says.

Based on these convictions, Mesteth has to register as a sex offender for life in Nebraska.

A lifetime registrant has to appear in court every three months to verify their information.

But after Mesteth told the court he was homeless, authorities said he missed his court appearances in September and December.

According to court documents, the arrest warrant was issued on Sunday.
