Omaha Skutt repels Waverly Vikings to advance to Class B final
WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) – The Omaha Skutt Catholic Skyhawks defeated the Waverly Vikings 38-26 on Friday on the road.
The Skyhawks struck first with a 51-yard touchdown run by quarterback Bennett Turman.
Waverly fumbled on its opening drive, but the Skyhawks did not score on their possession.
The Vikings found their first score of the game thanks to a 20-yard field goal by kicker Mark Novoselov.
In the second quarter, Skutt found the end zone on a passing touchdown from Turman to wide receiver Danny Johnson to increase their lead to 14-3.
The Vikings marched their way down the field and capped off their drive with a 20- yard touchdown run by Nolan Maahs, but a missed point-after attempt made the score 14-9.
The Skyhawks then found a field goal and headed into halftime with a 17-9 lead.
In the third quarter, Waverly started with the ball and finish their drive with a 42-yard rushing touchdown by running back Nathan Axmann to cut into the deficit.
Maahs tied the game up with a 2-point conversion.
The Vikings tacked on a field goal after a Skyhawk four-and-out to give them their first lead of the game at 20-17.
But that lead would not last long.
The Skyhawks’ next possession ended with a 45-yard touchdown by RB Anthony Heithoff to give Skutt the lead back.
Skutt Catholic scored once more to seal a trip to the Class B state final against Bennington.
