Omaha Skutt throttles Seward, gets rematch with Bennington in Class B title game

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – The Omaha Skutt Catholic football team has spent the 2024 campaign trying to avenge its state championship loss last season.

After defeating Seward 42-21 on Friday night, the Sky Hawks will get their shot at Bennington once again in Memorial Stadium.

The Sky Hawks’ offense got rolling early, taking the ball to start the game and driving all the way down to the 1-yard line.

Quarterback Dylan Van Dyke was able to sneak it in, but a missed extra point made the score 6-0.

Seward was able to answer right back, tossing the ball to receiver Jack Vyhnalek on the jet sweep for a 51-yard touchdown, making the score 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Blue Jays opened the second quarter with another touchdown. Quarterback Tresten Hass found Vyhnalek again, this time for a 20-yard touchdown, making the score 14-6.

But the Sky Hawks were able to answer. Van Dyke used his legs again to scramble out of the pocket and dive toward the pylon for a 10-yard touchdown run, cutting Seward’s lead to 14-12.

After another Seward touchdown, the Sky Hawks went into two-minute mode and drove the ball all the way to the goal line once again.

Van Dyke tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left on the clock to cut Seward’s lead to 21-19 at the break.

That touchdown was the start of a 30-0 run for the Sky Hawks to end the game and punch their ticket to Memorial Stadium.

Van Dyke had a part in all five touchdowns for the Sky Hawks, throwing for three and rushing for two.

Omaha Skutt will take on Bennington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
