LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Omaha woman was arrested Wednesday after trying to neuter two of her dogs.

Jessica Charf wanted to neuter her dogs Tango and Cash but didn’t have enough money for a vet to do it, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

So she Googled “banding” and tried to do it herself, deputies said.

Banding cuts off the blood flow to the testicles, eventually falling off.

This caused the dogs pain, injury and infection, according to deputies.

The sheriff’s office said banding is recommended to be used on animals younger than 4 months.

Tango and Cash are about 7 months old, deputies said.

Charf sedated the dogs using a drug called Acepromazine, according to authorities.

Deputies said that the drug was prescribed for a dog Charf had previously owned and that she never consulted a vet for proper use on Tango and Cash.

Both dogs needed surgery to get rid of the infections that the banding caused, the sheriff’s office said.

The vet handling the case told deputies that an infection that close to the blood supply has the potential to become fatal if sepsis sets in.

Charf was booked in jail on suspicion of three counts of animal torture, which is a Class III felony.

The dogs are now in the care of the Nebraska Humane Society.

Charf is set to appear in court on Friday.
