LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting overnight in Omaha.

At 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning, a trooper tried to pull over a Jeep Commander for speeding on Interstate 80, near 96th Street.

The driver refused to stop and the trooper started a pursuit.

The pursuit ended at an apartment complex near 108th and Harrison streets, and several troopers tried to get the driver to exit the vehicle.

While they were giving commands to exit the vehicle, the driver rammed three patrol cars, a garage and a retaining wall at the complex, the patrol said in a press release.

According to the patrol, the driver then drove toward two troopers who were standing outside their cars, at which point the they fired shots at the driver.

The driver was not hit and was able to drive a short distance before crashing into several parked cars at the apartment complex, disabling the suspect’s vehicle.

At that point, a trooper successfully deployed a taser and took the driver into custody, according to officials.

The patrol said alcohol is believed to be a factor. The suspect will be lodged in jail on several charges.

This is a developing story. Check back with Channel 8 for updates.
