One dead after vehicle crashes into northeast Lincoln apartment building

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One person was killed Tuesday night in a crash in northeast Lincoln, authorities say.

It happened about 9:15 p.m. at 45th and Holdrege streets.

Police said a vehicle was “speeding” west on Holdrege Street when the driver lost control and hit a curb.

The vehicle then struck a retaining wall, rolled, hit a fire hydrant and crashed into an apartment complex.

The driver, a 41-year-old Lincoln man, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to LPD.

A Channel 8 reporter said the vehicle ended up on its roof.

Damage could be seen to the outside of the building.

Lincoln Police said that no one inside was hurt but that one family was displaced.

A fire hydrant was also hit in the crash, according to LFR.  Police estimate
