One dead in cabin explosion in central Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A person was killed Tuesday when a cabin exploded in central Nebraska.

A cabin fire south of Shelton, which is about halfway between Grand Island and Kearney, was reported shortly before 5:30 a.m.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said authorities don’t know exactly when the explosion happened.

The building was destroyed, the sheriff’s office said.

In the rubble, first responders found a body they say was likely an adult male.

No one else was in the cabin when it exploded, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation is ongoing, but the sheriff’s office said foul play is not suspected.

Authorities said they have not identified the body. An autopsy has been requested.
