Two dead, one hospitalized after crash in north Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two people were killed Monday in a crash in north Lincoln.

Just before 1:30 p.m., first responders were sent to Antelope Valley Parkway on the bridge over Salt Creek.

The Lincoln Police Department said a red sedan was driving north on Antelope Valley when it crossed the center line and hit a southbound black pickup.

According to LPD, a witness said the red car was speeding, hydroplaned in the rain and lost control.

“We just had a kind of freak weather spell,” Sgt. David Nelson said. “We had some standing water on the roadway. They hydroplaned and went head-on into a southbound vehicle.”

According to LPD, both the driver and the passenger in the red sedan died from their injuries.

Nelson said the driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

In a video sent to our NOW Local News App, you can see heavy damage to both vehicles on the bridge.

Antelope Valley from Garber Avenue to Military Road was shut down for hours during the investigation, but it has since been reopened.

On social media, many people have commented that speeding is a problem along Antelope Valley Parkway.

In the past several days, there have been multiple crashes along the road.

Three vehicles collided Friday at the intersection with L Street, and one also hit a building.

Another crash happened at Antelope Valley and O Street, also on Friday.

The police crash reports do not list speeding as a factor in those crashes, but they do say the drivers ran red lights.
