LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man died Monday after a rollover crash on a highway in rural Jefferson County.

Around 10 a.m., deputies were sent to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 8, just southeast of Fairbury.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a Jeep Wrangler – driven by 50-year-old Wade Lewis of Fairbury – was heading west on Highway 8.

Lewis crossed over into the opposite lane and went into a ditch before crashing into an embankment near a railroad.

The vehicle rolled and came to a stop on the tracks, the sheriff’s office said.

Lewis was taken to a hospital in Fairbury, where he was later pronounced dead.  He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the sheriff’s office.

An investigation is ongoing.
