One killed in crash with box truck east of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A person was killed Thursday in a crash with a box truck east of Lincoln, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says.

The crash happened at the intersection of 134th and Adams streets around 12:40 p.m.

An SUV was going south on 134th Street when it was struck by an eastbound box truck at the intersection, Capt. John Vik said.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the box truck was not injured.

Vik said the SUV stopped at the stop sign but then continued into the intersection.

“We’re working to determine whether they saw the truck or didn’t and what took place,” Vik said. “But for whatever reason, they were in the intersection when they were struck.”

The sheriff’s office is also trying to figure out how fast the truck was going and whether the SUV driver was wearing a seat belt.

An investigation is ongoing.

The intersection was shut down for several hours.
