LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was killed last weekend in a crash with a semitrailer in rural Polk County, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.

The crash happened Saturday around 7 a.m. on West Park Street in Shelby, a village south of Columbus.

A Ford Focus was heading west when it crashed into a semi head-on, according to the sheriff’s office.

A passenger in the Ford — Jose Sierra Peralta — was flown to a Lincoln hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another passenger was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.  The driver and a third passenger were treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford, Pedaro Ruez Izaguirre, was charged with motor vehicle homicide and reckless driving, the sheriff’s office said.
