UPDATE: Driver identified in fatal crash north of Lincoln

LSO identified Nicki Beenblossom as the deceased driver in Wednesday night crash.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — UPDATE: Lincoln Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased driver in the crash Wednesday night near Highway 77 and Mill Road.

Thursday morning, police identified Nicki Beenblossom, 52, as the deceased driver after traveling the wrong way on Hwy 77.

Beenblossom was not wearing a seatbelt and was believed to be intoxicated, according to LSO.

At 9:07 Wednesday night, Beenblossom crashed into a Lincoln Navigator at the top of a hill.

The Lincoln Navigator caught fire after the vehicles collided head-on at full speed.

A citizen and deputy helped the women in the Navigator get out of the car. She was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and has since been released.

Around 2 am, all roads were open and traffic resumed as normal.

One person was killed in a fiery crash Wednesday night near Highway 77 and Mill Road. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said another person was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Two cars collided head-on about 9:15 p.m. resulting in a large fire that also spread to a grassy area. LSO says only one person was in each vehicle at the time of the crash. StarCare was initially called to the scene but was later canceled due to the extent of injuries.

The southbound lanes of the highway have reopened. The northbound lanes, starting at N 56th and Waverly Road are expected to be closed for hours as LSO works to investigate the crash site.
