Woman killed in trailer home fire in northwest Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 66-year-old woman was killed Tuesday morning in a trailer home fire in northwest Lincoln.

About 8:30 a.m., a health care worker arrived at the home near Northwest Sixth Street and Gaslight Lane to check on the resident, according to Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman MJ Lierman.

They saw flames when they opened the door and called 911.

Firefighters extinguished a small fire inside the smoke-filled trailer, according to Lierman.

Crews then found the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Lierman said.

One neighbor said she heard sirens and went out to see what was happening.

“The only thing I saw was smoke,” Linda Wisehart said. “There was a considerable amount of smoke coming out of the front of the trailer.”

Five cats were rescued. Lierman said crews provided first aid and oxygen to the cats.

One cat is still missing, according to Lierman.

It’s unknown what caused the fire.
