One killed when train hits combine in southeast Nebraska, patrol says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A person was killed Monday in a crash with a train near Firth, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

The crash happened around noon west of the 110th Street and Apple Road intersection.

The patrol said a combine was heading east on Apple Road when it was struck by a southbound coal train.

The driver of the combine was pronounced dead at the scene.

East Apple Road remains closed as the investigation continues.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Firth Fire Department and Burlington Northern Santa Fe also responded to the scene.
