One more day of storm chances; drop in humidity for Saturday

Severe wind gusts in south-central Nebraska caused damage to areas like Cairo, Grand Island, Kenesaw and Prosser.

Downed power poles leading to power outages, turned pivots, with grain silo and tree damage yesterday (July 10, 2025).

Strongest winds near Kearney gusted up to 70 mph.

Heavy rainfall in northeast Nebraska added up to more than 3″ toward Norfolk, while radar estimates appear much higher toward the South Dakota border in Cedar County.

The drought continues to get eaten away for areas of northeast Nebraska, while moderate to severe drought conditions continue in southern Nebraska.

And this week isn’t done with us quite yet – there are more chances for rain and thunderstorms this Friday.

A few storms on the backside of a departing low will redevelop this afternoon, nearby and particularly just north of Lincoln. Then a cold front comes through tonight to bring some more scattered showers overnight into early Saturday morning. The risk for severe weather for any one area within the green below is very low. A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk is in place for maybe a storm or two across the state threatening up to 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail. There was a slight adjustment for a bit better chance at some hail and wind coming with storms for the southern Panhandle out west.

The cold front mentioned before will also force the moisture east, causing a drop in the awful humidity we’ve seen lately. Yay!

Dew points will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s for Saturday afternoon.

And even cooler weather is on the way in the extended forecast. The temperature outlook for July 16-20th (next Wednesday through the following Sunday) is leaning toward a good chance for below average temperatures.
