One more mild day before temperatures come crashing down
Temperatures continued to rise on Monday across all of southeast Nebraska. Although snow on the ground generally has a cooling effect on temperatures, enough was able to melt to push highs into the low-40s in Lincoln.
We’re anticipating a few high clouds on Monday evening and the majority of the overnight stretch, but still remaining mostly clear. That said, cloud cover starts to thicken near sunrise on Tuesday morning. We should wake up to more clouds on Tuesday, with low temperatures in the low to mid-20s.
Although we’ll have some morning clouds, we should start to see some more breaks in the clouds by Tuesday afternoon. Highs should manage to make it into the mid-40s on Tuesday, which should melt most of any remaining snow on the ground. In fact, highs may approach or exceed 50° near the Tri-Cities!
A dry cold front passes on Tuesday evening. This front will cause our warmup to come to a screeching halt. Highs should be in the upper teens to low-20s on Wednesday, and even cooler on Thursday!
We are tracking an upper-level wave that will move through the state on Wednesday evening. This could bring a few snow showers along with it. There are still questions as to how this system will track. If it tracks farther north, Lincoln has a chance at seeing a few snow showers. But if the system tracks farther south, Lincoln may end up completely dry.
Either way, the better chance for snow showers on Wednesday night is to the south and west of the capital city. Lincoln may find itself close to the edge of the precipitation shield, so we’ve included a chance for snow showers. However, know that the system could track in a way that entirely misses Linocln.
Although we cool off to close out the work week, we have good news if you like warmer weather. Above-average temperatures appear to return to the region by next week!
