One of Lincoln’s coldest Halloweens of the past 50 years
Happy Halloween! The first thing to likely give you a chill this year is the wind through the morning. Halloween starts with strong winds through the first half of the day, with gusts around 30-35 mph acting to whisk away your body heat. Count on single-digit chills through the early morning hours.
But in the spirit of Halloween, here’s a look at Lincoln’s climate for this day. Usually, temperatures are in the upper 50s, while the average lows are in the 30s. This year, our high temperature will be closer to our normal low temperature for this date. We have also seen snow on Halloween before, with a record of over 2″ seen back in 1991.
Speaking of 1991, that was our coldest Halloween on record. The warmest temperature of that day was 29°. It will not be that cold for this year’s festivities, but it could be in the top 5 coldest Halloweens in Lincoln’s history. The forecast high would tie us for the third-coldest Halloween in the past 50 years.
The good news is that winds should calm just in time for trick-or-treating tonight. Temperatures will still be cold and only getting colder. After work, we should be in the middle 30s before quickly jumping into the 20s after sunset. Coats and costumes this year!
And if the wind chills were not enough to add a chill to your body, maybe knowing some more phobias will. There are several weather-related phobias that you may not have known about before, adding more to the spooky holiday. A list of some of them can be found below.
But from all of the Storm Alert Team, we’re wishing you and yours a Happy Halloween, staying safe and warm! A warm up will kick off November tomorrow.
