One person is missing after a massive fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning at Heartland Farms in Bennington.
Over 120 personnel are on the scene to help put out the blaze in the 35,000 to 40,000 square foot structure.
With temperatures in the single digits nearly the entire day, the fight against the fire has remained challenging. Cold conditions are just one of the factors that have been working against the 13 to 14 fire crews who are actively trying to stop hot spots with water.
According to Waterloo Fire Department Chief Travis Harlow, one firefighter has been transported to a hospital with injuries, and one unidentified party remains unaccounted for.
The farm sells horses and offers boarding options. Owners say there are 50 horses on the farm right now. There has been no word regarding the current conditions of the horses.
Waterloo Fire Department has control of the scene and is aided by, Omaha, Bennington, Arlington, and Fremont fire departments.
