Man injured after crashing into traffic light pole in southeast Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was trapped Monday after crashing into a traffic light pole at a southeast Lincoln intersection.
Several Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews responded to the two-vehicle crash at 70th Street and Nebraska Parkway around 12:45 p.m.
A Ford Escape on 70th Street was waiting to turn left onto Nebraska Parkway, according to a crash report released Tuesday.
The Ford was turning left when it was struck by an eastbound Acura RL, the report says. The Acura continued east and crashed into the traffic light pole.
Witnesses said the Acura ran through a red light at a high speed, according to the report.
A Channel 8 reporter at the scene said LFR crews extricated the driver from the Acura. He was taken to a hospital with “suspected serious injuries,” the crash report says.
The three occupants of the Ford were not injured.
The crash caused $25,000 in damage to the traffic light pole, according to the crash report. The Acura was totaled.
A part of Nebraska Parkway and 70th Street was temporarily shut down. Both roads have since been reopened.
