UPDATE: Woman killed in overnight accident in North Lincoln identified

UPDATE: The woman killed in a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning in North Lincoln has been identified. 

An accident report says Julie Schmieding, 38, of Lincoln was killed after the car she was driving left the road and crashed into a tree. 

Schmieding’s 15-year-old daughter Tylea Schmieding was critically injured and transported to Bryan West.

According to the accident report an off duty Lancaster County Sheriff deputy saw Schmieding’s car in a ditch with both people trapped inside.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor and it’s not known if seatbelts were in use.

Police are still investigating what caused the accident and we’ll have more information as it becomes available.


Lincoln Police say one woman is dead and another is in life-threatening condition after an overnight crash in North Lincoln.

It happened around 1 a.m. Sunday morning at the intersection of North 1st Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Officials say a woman and her passenger were heading south on North 1st Street when the vehicle they were in left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver died at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Police are still investigating what caused the accident and we will have more details as they become available.
