Opening weekend recap: 2023 College World Series
OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) – The opening round of the Men’s College World Series came to an end on Saturday night.
In the final game of the first round LSU defeated Tennessee 6-3 behind a dominant pitching performance from Paul Skenes.
Skenes got the win in historic fashion striking out 12 batters for the second most in Men’s College World Series. The ace was threw 41 pitches registering 100+ mph in his final inning.
After the Volunteers hit three runs in the the eighth, LSU responded with a solo homerun by Brayden Jobert.
In the early game on Saturday, it was the Trees and the Forest going head-to-head.
But it was Wake Forest who defeated Stanford 3-2 after an eighth-inning rally.
The Demon Deacons finished the Cardinal off with double play in the top of the ninth.
In opening day action on Friday, Florida and Oral Roberts overcame late game deficits win in thrilling fashion.
Luke Heyman’s walk-off sacrifice fly gave Florida a comeback victory to shoclk Virginia 6-5.
In the first game, Oral Roberts trailed by 3 in the ninth but scored four to beat TCU 6-5. The biggest impact coming froms Blaze Brothers’ three-run home run that put the Golden Eagles in the lead.
