‘Our coach’: Nebraska broadcaster remembers Greg Sharpe ahead of season opener
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football’s season opener in Kansas City on Friday night will be the first since Greg Sharpe died earlier this year.
Sharpe, also known as the “Voice of the Huskers,” died in February after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Fellow broadcaster Matt Coatney, a studio anchor for the Huskers Radio Network’s football broadcast, said Nebraskans felt like Sharpe was part of their family.
He also noted that fans and broadcasters will notice Sharpe’s absence during the season opener against Cincinnati.
“This is going to be so different this afternoon,” Coatney said. “Greg was our coach.”
Coatney and the other members of the Huskers Radio Network’s broadcast team will dedicate a part of the pregame show to Sharpe.
“Just wanna thank him, for everything he did for me personally and everything he did for Husker nation,” Coatney said.
