‘Our piece of Levi’: Dog helps Lincoln family remember brother killed in crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The family of a Lincoln man killed in a crash last week is speaking for the first time since the tragedy.

Levi Bowman’s siblings are holding to one of the last links to their brother, a dog named Ben.

The Lincoln Police Department said that on May 14, Bowman rear-ended a car and then lost control.

His pickup truck went off the road and rolled into a house at 56th Street and Cooper Avenue.

Bowman is survived by his siblings, his parents and his son.

“The worst part about it is that it is so unexpected,” Luke Bowman said. “You never think your brother is going to die like this, driving down the road.”

Lance Bowman, another brother, said Levi was always trying to put a smile on others’ faces.

“Always cracking jokes, always trying to be funny and up the mood,” he said.

Macy Bowman, the youngest sister, said dog was in the truck when the crash happened but survived.

The siblings said Ben is helping them keep their connection with their brother.

“Ben making it out is like our piece of Levi,” Macy Bowman said.

The siblings believe the animal is acting differently since the crash.

“I definitely think that Ben knows that something isn’t right” Macy said.

The family is struggling with Bowman’s final expenses, so they have set up a GoFundMe page.
