Over 100 dart throwers show up to help Pink Ladies of Lincoln and their cause
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Pink Ladies of Lincoln is a local nonprofit dedicated to helping those in need.
This weekend, it gave dart throwers a chance to have fun while helping out their city.
The organization has been giving monetary gifts to those battling terminal illnesses or struggling through domestic violence since 2015.
“One of our mission statements was to keep all of the money we raised local,” co-founder Marshall Kohtz said. “One thing that we’re very proud of is that all the money that we raise goes to Lincoln and the surrounding area.”
The Pink Ladies’ annual dart tournament/fundraiser this weekend gave 130 dart enthusiasts the chance to brush up on some skills and donate to a good cause.
One thrower and Pink Ladies board member is a breast cancer survivor herself, and she personally attested to the importance a few extra bucks can have.
“I understand your story,” Elizabeth Lattimer said. “I’ve been there, and every single dollar helps because it is financially exhausting.”
The nonprofit is volunteer-based and has helped over 100 people since its inception.
In 2023, the organization is hoping to raise over $30,000 to give even more gifts.
“That list of people that get nominated to us, it grows and grows and grows,” Kohtz said. “The need never goes away. If we can give five gifts, there’s 10 more people on the list. And so that’s what inspires us to keep doing the work that we do.”
